General Info on Medical Education

Unmatched Environment

No other metropolitan area in the U.S. can claim as many opportunities for medical learning as southeastern Michigan. Rarer still is the spirit of camaraderie and sharing you'll find among area education programs. Rather than compete for residents, we know that what is good for society is good for us, and that means making sure that you become the best physician you can be.

Our membership in the Wayne State University-Southeast Michigan Center for Medical Education Consortium makes Providence-Providence Park Hospital part of the largest medical education alliance in the Midwest. Together, WSU-SEMCME hospitals provide more than 48 percent of all graduate medical education in Michigan.

In 1999, Providence-Providence Park Hospital joined St. John Health System as a member of Ascension Health, the largest Catholic health ministry in the nation formed by the merging of the Daughters of Charity and Sisters of St. Joseph health ministries. Now, as a member of St. John Providence health system, Providence-Providence Park Hospital is able to offer additional learning opportunities to residents. Of its nine hospitals, five are teaching facilities and three are osteopathic hospitals.
