Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital Program Overview
Our
residents spend several months at Ascension St. John Hospital and Medical
Center in Detroit, where they receive training in inner city medicine and
additional trauma. Two of those months are dedicated to Pediatric Emergency
Medicine working with Board Certified Pediatric EM physicians. By the end of
our program, our residents are extremely well trained and are able to function
in any type of Emergency Medicine environment.
We also travel out for dedicated Trauma, either here in Detroit at Detroit
Sinai Grace (for those who do not wish to travel out of town) or out of state
to either Shock Trauma at the University of Maryland Medical Center or approved
locations of your choosing. PICU training is currently provided at Children’s
Hospital of Michigan located in the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) and toxicology
at the Michigan Regional Poison Control Center also in DMC.
Our program provides Ultrasound Certification by our fellowship trained
director, quarterly SIM lab training, and a strong didactic program with monthly
exams, oral board and radiology review. We have a dedicated Research Director
and our residents have presented at SAEM, ACOEP and MAOPS and have taken first
place awards. We have also begun to publish our research over the last two
years.
