Ascension Providence Hospital Family Medicine Sub-Internship

Work Hours: Weekdays; Call: One evening per week, two weekend shifts per rotation (16 hours per shift)
Prerequisites: 2 years of medical school; Family Medicine core clerkship; requires approval of a secondary application found here

General: Fourth year students may select a sub-internship rotation on the Family Medicine Inpatient Service at Ascension Providence Hospital, Southfield Campus if they have completed a general Family Medicine core clerkship. Sub-interns work on inpatient clinical teams and are assigned direct responsibility for 2-3 patients under the supervision of senior residents. Students assess patients upon admission and perform histories and physical examinations. Students evaluate patients daily and document progress notes in the patient chart. An extensive conference schedule is offered.

Evaluation: At the end of the rotation, the Rotation Director will collect data from the supervising physician and other medical team members and complete a written evaluation of the student that is reflective of the student’s academic competence, procedural proficiency and professional attributes. The standard medical school form from the student’s medical school will be used. If required, the student should complete a case log and an evaluation of the rotation and submit them to their medical school.
