Work Hours: Weekdays starting at 7am; no call

Prerequisites: 2 years of medical school; completion of MCE and OGR 641 or OGR 608 for MSUCHM students; completion of OBGYN core clerkship for students from other schools PLUS review of secondary application for all students found here.

General:  This rotation demonstrates to the student the approach to women with pelvic floor disorders in a community practice.

Goals & Objectives: The student elective in FPMRS has the following objectives:

  • Improve student's understanding of how to gather an initial history/physical in a patient with pelvic floor disorders
  • Improve understanding of pelvic floor disorders to the point of formulating an initial management plan in uncomplicated patients.
  • Expose the student to advanced management of pelvic floor disorders, both medical and surgical.

Student Responsibilities and Expectations: The student will gain the objectives by the combination of didactics, case discussion and assisting with the care of patients. The student will be expected to read and study information related to various pelvic floor disorders including urinary/fecal incontinence, prolapse, pelvic pain and other pelvic disorders. Scheduling will be done at the start of the rotation to work with different FPMRS physicians in the office and operating room. Students are expected to attend Morning Report every day at 7am and Wednesday didactics. There will be no call.

Evaluation: At the end of the rotation, the Rotation Director will collect data from the supervising physician and other medical team members and complete a written evaluation of the student that is reflective of the student’s academic competence, procedural proficiency and professional attributes. The standard medical school form from the student’s medical school will be used. If required, the student should complete a case log and an evaluation of the rotation and submit them to their medical school.
