Duration of the Rotation: 4 weeks
Students Per Month: Each preceptor will allow 3 students per their service
Work Hours: Weekdays; no call
Prerequisites: 2 years of medical school; MCE completion for MSUCHM Students; completion of internal medicine core clerkship for students from other schools

General: This elective is designed to give the student an opportunity to learn the neurologic exam as well as to be acquainted with the diagnosis, findings and treatment of the following frequently seen neurological diseases:
- Stroke
- Headaches
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Myasthenia Gravis
- Dizziness
- Dementia
- Neuropathy
- Myopathy
- Meningitis
- Epilepsy
- Parkinson's Disease
- Coma
- Others
Goals & Objectives: The student will participate in daily hospital rounds with the preceptor which will include reviewing EEG’s, MRI’s, x-rays, CT scans and electromyogram. The student will perform consultations with supervision, as well as participate in the preceptor’s office regularly. Reading may include a neurology outline that is handed out and the neurology section in Harrison’s Textbook of Internal Medicine. Any material relating to neurology is encouraged to be read by the student in addition to the above mentioned.
In following this procedure of study, we feel the medical student will receive a broad education in the field of neurology through practical experience and observation.
Evaluation: The Rotation Director will collect data from the supervising physician and other medical team members and complete a written evaluation of the student that is reflective of the student’s academic competence, procedural proficiency and professional attributes. The standard medical school form from the student’s medical school will be used. If required, the student should complete a case log and an evaluation of the rotation and submit them to their medical school.
